This summer for my birthday BF took me and Bugsy to Carmel-By-The-Sea for a long weekend. We stayed at the most adorable bed and breakfast called the Carmel Country Inn, and our room (the Queen Studio) was so cute. I loved how pet friendly they were, their Facebook page even features a PET OF THE DAY section. Bugsy enjoyed the daily treats and quickly made friends with the office staff. I had never really been to the town of Carmel before, I had stopped at the beach on the way to Monterrey years ago, but hadn’t had a chance to really explore it.
The main part of town was a short walk through a quiet neighborhood away, and a off leash dog beach was just a bit further. Bugsy didn’t understand the beach and as soon as we unhooked his leash, he looked at the ocean, checked out the other dogs, and took off running for the parking lot. Apparently this beach offered too much freedom and he was intimidated. All the restaurants we went to were super dog friendly, one even brought out a dog bed for him to sit on while we were eating. We went wine tasting, and while all the tasting rooms we sampled were tasty, nothing beats the selections we have here on the Central Coast. I went to a cheese shop, and tasted so many delicious cheeses from around the world I can’t even remember the names of most of them, all in all it was a perfect weekend.
On the drive home, we decided to take the scenic route and traveled Highway 1 along the coast. We stopped in Big Sur and went for a little walk on Pfeiffer State Beach. I don’t think I’ve been there in over 10 years, but it looked the same as I remembered it, the road getting there was a lot rougher than I had recalled. I think I could spend all day just watching the rocks and the ocean there. It’s so raw and beautiful, nature truly is incredible.
